Fun With Ropes And Clothespins

She was nervous but entirely determined that they would do this. Her pace was quick as she walked from Hardwick’s Market back to Liam’s apartment a few blocks away. The bag with the rope and the clothespins swung nervously in her hand, back and forth and she replayed the interaction with Mrs. Hardwick at the market over and over again in her head.

It was weird, wasn’t it? Did the middle-aged shopkeeper suspect her of not needing a clothesline for actual clothes? Did she guess that her purchases wouldn’t be used at all as intended? Randi chewed on her lip remembering the phrases that they had exchanged. Oh God, would this be something that Mrs. Hardwick would mention to her mom?!

“Oh, by the way, Charlene, Randi stopped in the store today. She picked up some clothesline and clothespins. So many of these young people are so environmentally conscious, trying to reduce their electric consumption.”

And how would her mother respond in return? Probably by busting out laughing with something like:

“My Randi?! She doesn’t have an environmentally conscious bone in her body! She doesn’t even have anywhere to put up a clothesline! Don’t you know, she
