Cap-Haitien City of Tourism
How can I forget the wonderful vacation I spent with my family in Haiti this Summer? If there is one thing everyone can agree with, it is that Cap-Haitien a place that you can spend some time when you feel lonely, and you can go there to relax and have fun. Cap-Haitien is one of the most beautiful Cities in Haiti. Cap-Haitien is located on the North coast of Haiti and it is Capital of Department of Nord. Before according to definition.net (n.d), Cap-Haitien was named Cap Francais, Cap Henri and the Cap in 1711. Cap-Haitien was an important city during the colonial period and served as Capital of French colony called St Doming. Cap-Haitien was founded in 1711 by the French colony until 1770 when the Capital moved to Port-au-Prince. It was the first capital of the kingdom of Northern Haiti under Henri Christophe after the slave revolution. I love Cap- Haitien because it is the place where my dad was born. I will never forget that wonderful vacation I spent with my family and friends in my dad’s hometown. Cap-Haitien also has two of the prettiest touristic places Labadie and Citadelle LaFerriere.
The Citadel Laferriere was built by Henri Christophe and workers after the war of independence of Haiti. It was built in 1805 in order to protect the new nation against the French. The Citadel Laferriere was built on the mountain top Bennet Leveque overlooking Cap-Haitien because it has the best view of the city Cap-Haitien. The beautiful view from the top has made it into a tourist destination. From the top of it you can see the sunshine on the houses, you can feel the warmth of the sun, and you can also see the view of the nature. Inside of the Citadelle Laferriere, and you can still see the old Cannons that were used for war, the bathing quarters and the bakery ovens. The structure, which was built with stone, and the historical elements that can still be seen in this place are another reason for tourists to visit. If you want to go to visit the Citadelle Laferriere after driving thirty-eight miles from Labadie to Citadelle Laferriere there are two ways to get inside, either you walk or go on horseback. I went to visit there with my family and friends, and we walked fifteen minutes from the bus station to go inside of the Citadelle Laferriere and see every part of it. We took some pictures and enjoyed the view, and we had an amazing day. The structure of the Citadelle Laferriere has become the symbol of power of Haiti. Me and my family enjoyed that experience and we would like to go there again because we had just one day.
We also went to Labadie, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in North Haiti and in the Caribbean. Even though Labadie and The Citadelle Laferriere are the same city Cap-Haitien, and it takes an hour to drive from the Citadelle Laferriere to Labadie. Labadie has a perfect balance of the sea, green trees, sunshine and a nice hotel. Labadee has a big Port that allows it to receive the Celebrity cruises and international cruises as well. In Labadee, there are a variety of activities available such as flea market, watersports and a water-oriented playground. Labadee is very large in size; that’s why they also have alpine coasters. Alpine coaster is a small vehicle of type roller coaster which uses a cart to run down a track usually built on the side of a hill. that can take you from one place to the other. We can also find the largest Zipline over the water which is one the reasons why I liked going there. When we went there, we stayed for three days because we wanted to enjoy all the attractions. We played alpine Coasters, rode the zipline over the water and enjoyed the freedom and the mood in the place. I especially enjoyed playing on the Alpine Coasters. We saw people who come from all over the world and we made friends with some of them. People like to go in Labadee to enjoy the weather and have fun.
Another place I enjoyed was a restaurant called Cap Deli which had delicious food. Cap Deli is a famous and very nice restaurant in Cap-Haitien. Cap Deli restaurant has a bar where is jazz or DJ performed every night. It has a best view of the sea because it is very close to the sea. Cap Deli is very colorful, so it has a lot of pictures and has pictures of artists. The people that work in Cap Deli restaurant are very nice. The food that they sell there is our traditional Haitian food. Its food from creole cuisine in Haiti. It’s from originate several cultures that Haiti was colonized. I enjoyed the flavor and the people were very nice and friendly there. By the way, they have a bar in the same restaurant and every night they invite a singer or a Jazz musician to perform. It was at this restaurant that I celebrated my birthday this year. My mom and my friends organized a surprise party for me. They collected money together to celebrate. They invited some of my friends and other people to the party. I was surprised to see how many presents and even a birthday cakes my friends brought me. We danced, ate and drank a lot. We had a lot fun. There was a DJ and singer that night, and she sang a birthday song for me. I was so excited to see my Mom and all my friends had arranged a surprise party for me. It was the first time they all did something special for me. I will never forget all they did so the birthday surprise party would turn out great.
In conclusion, it is always a pleasure for me to spend time with my family, friends and take time to rest. The Citadelle Laferriere and Labadee is a part of Haiti. It is also a place for tourist to visit. It is a place which represents the symbol of power in Haiti, and it is also a city where people feel overstressed can go. My vacation this Summer was something very special, and I was surprised by family members and friends of my birthday. I will never forget that wonderful experience I had in Haiti.
