“Without music, life would be a blank to me.” — Jane Austen. Music has been present in the history of humankind from the beginning, and since then there have been different artist who have created new music styles and genres. Because there are many music styles is the reason everybody favors to listen a certain genre, artist, album or song. For me, I will always prefer to listen more to my favorite artist, Lana del Rey, than to listen anybody else. Let me explain why.

Before saying the reason why, I love Lana del Rey, let’s introduce first who she is. Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, best known as Lana del Rey, is an American singer and songwriter, born in 1985, who at the age of eighteen started to perform in various nightclubs around New York under different names. On 2005, she decided to pursue music as a professional career; what ended up with Lana recording the EP “Kill Kill” as Lizzie Grant, on 2008. Lizzie Grant evolved to Lana del Ray, what respectively evolved to become Lana del Rey, on 2010. On 2011, Del Rey was launched to the fame thanks to the release of her song “Video Games”. Since then, she has worked hard to be recognized nowadays as the “Queen of Indie Pop”.

Now that we know who Lana del Rey is; I can explain why I love her so much. First and foremost, I love the kind of person she is. Elizabeth Grant is a very caring person who has done community service voluntarily to try to help homeless youth, and she has worked at drug and alcohol outreach programs. Besides caring that much for other people; Lana del Rey cares a lot about her fans. While she is performing, Lana takes a little time to talk to her fans, and after her concerts, she always goes down the stage to sign autographs, take pictures and be closer to her fans. In addition, once I saw on Instagram that she sent a video greeting a fan who was not able to attend to her concert. I also love that Lana is sassy sometimes. For example, I remember another video where she “fought” with one of her bodyguards just because he did not allow her to receive to collage book that a fan made for her.

We talked about her and why I love her as a person and as a singer; now let’s talk about the reasons I love her music. First, what I like about her music is that all her lyrics are fierce, and they all are written by Lana del Rey. Second, all her songs are a story or an anecdote which you can relate as soon as you hear them. Third, her voice is angelical; in fact, it is that good that even other artist such as Adele have agreed that she has a glorious voice. Fourth, music critics have described her music as “Hollywood sad core”, but for me, her music is not sad, her music is relaxing, and it is the perfect music to hear every time, even if you are happy. Finally, I believed that it exists some songs that take you back in time to a specific place, and most of Lana’s songs do that for me; for example, listen the song “Ride” always take me to the summer of 2016, and even when it is winter, it reminds me of the heat of the sun and the feel of the wind in my face.

After talking about her, the reasons why I love her and her music; let’s focus on one of her albums. My favorite Lana del Rey’s album is “Born to Die: The Paradise Edition”. This album is the reissue of her previous album “Born to Die” with an extension of eight new songs such as “Ride”, “American”, among others. I like this album the most for two reasons. The first one is that since I was a kid, I have always been a good guy, a guy who never broke the rules and always did what people told me to do, but the lyrics and the songs of this album has always made me feel wild and free; the Paradise Edition has always given to me this sense of rebellion, the sense of breaking the rules, the sense of “live fast, die young, be wild and have fun” (quote of Lana del Rey’s song “Ride”) something that I never had before. The second reason why this is my favorite album is the extra songs and that no matter how much I repeated it, I do not get tired of listen to it.

I did my best to explain why I love Lana del Rey so much, but my words are so unfair to the reality of how extraordinary she and her music are. The mix of Lana’s voice, her lyrics and the rhythm of her songs are a work of art that everybody should listen, and I am not just saying it because Lana del Rey is my favorite artist, but because she is a wonderful singer with an amazing voice and because she is an awesome person. In a few words, she is all the package.
