There isn’t any place that would make you more comfortable than your hometown. I’ve been in so many places but nothing like my hometown. If you are living in your hometown, you might not think the same way; probably you would like to travel and discover new places. However, if you are grown up, just think about when you were a kid. I bet that you have hundreds, maybe thousands of stories to tell about your childhood in your hometown. If you are wondering why I asked you to think about your childhood. Well, when you are a child, everything is about fun. I mean, you don’t need to pay bills and have all the responsibilities that you might have now as a grown-up person. So, that’s why I’d like to talk about my hometown and those places that as a child I loved, and I might still love some of them.

I can’t think about my childhood and not think about the tree in the backyard of my family’s house. It was an almond tree, probably the biggest tree I’ve seen so far. There are thousands of stories under this tree. Why is this tree so important to me? It’s because I grew up under this tree and I used to spend most of my time under it. Almost the whole neighborhood used to go to my backyard to sit under the almond tree. My country is a really hot country, therefore, people like to stay under the shade of the trees and the almond tree in my house backyard was a perfect place since you can catch very good fresh air. One of my neighbors, Nury, used to spend the whole day under the tree playing cards. I remember that I used to wake up at 7:00 every morning when my father left to work. The first thing I did every day was riding my bike in the backyard. I loved doing this because the almond tree has enormous roots. So, I could jump them that way I had more fun. Also, remember riding my bike to my grandma house. My grandma house was to the other side of the baseball field, and I had to ride my bike all around it.

Literally, my second home was the baseball field. I started to play baseball when I was four years old with my uncles. Then, when I turned seven years old I formed part of the baseball league of my town. Once I got home from the school, the first thing I had to do was my homework and eat so my mother would let me spend the rest of the day in the baseball field. My friends and I usually got to the baseball field at 3:30 pm until 7:00 pm. We had a routine every day, first, we ran around the baseball field at least four times then, we practice for one or two hours before 6:00. Every-day the kids from my neighborhood used to go to the baseball field at 6:00 to play baseball. It was a lot of us, so we had to do a team in the back of the field and another at the home field. All my friends and I used to go to play there not only baseball but, a ton of games. One of the things that I liked to do there besides to play baseball, was fly kites. That baseball field is so special for me. Sometimes for some reason, I didn’t feel comfortable at my house, and I used to go there so I could feel better. Some places have the energy enough to make you feel better in those times where you need to take some space and that place was just perfect to me. Other unforgettable moments in this place were when it was raining. Every time that it was raining I used to go to the field with my friends to play in the grass while it was raining. When it’s raining the baseball field got flooded so, we used to skid in the grass and play with the water.

My weekend place, and after school my workplace. Was a part of my town named “Los Derramaderos”. Why is it my weekend place? It’s because as a child I loved that place because every weekend my uncles used to play softball there. Right next to the softball field was a river, where I loved to take a bath. Also, this part of my town is kind of isolated; there aren’t a lot of people. In this town, everyone knows each other, and that’s one of the reasons why I love that pace because I could go to whatever house I wanted, and nobody would say anything because they know me. Also, one of my favorites uncles lived there. He was my favorite uncle because he has many horses. I extremely love horses, and every time I went to his house, he used to give me a ride on “Rojo”, my favorite horse. After school, it was my workplace, because there is where my grandfather has all his cows and other animals. So, every day after school my uncles took me there to get the caws from one place to other. It was a long walk, but I loved it. The first thing we had to do was to get the cows to a river, so they can drink water. Then, we had to take them to another place where they sleep. Finally, we had to do my favorite part, which was milking the cows. We had to milk the cows every-day, because my grandma sells the milk and also, for our own consumption.

I still have thousands of stories to tell about these places in my hometown. The main reason why I love these places is that it isn’t only places, it is my childhood. Each of these places marked my life forever since I have unforgettable moments there. I know there are many people that don’t have a hometown because for some reason these persons moved to many places. But, it doesn’t mean that they don’t have a hometown, because in at least one of these places that person have had great moments. That’s what makes a place special, it isn’t only a hometown, it’s a place where you have the best moments.
