We are pleased to announce that Keep and Summa have partnered to establish a blockchain interoperability working group, called Cross-Chain Group. The group will focus on cross-chain interoperability by being an industry resource for technologies, projects, and efforts at the forefront of blockchain interoperability. By engaging with new technologies that support cross-chain communication, we aim to support a more robust and user-friendly ecosystem.

At Keep, our primary focus is on delivering privacy-preserving technology for use across public chains. We are chain-agnostic and are interested in interoperability for the value that it enables (our work on Istanbul EIP 152 speaks to this, bringing interoperation between Zcash and Ethereum.) We aim to work on all public chains, and interoperability is one of the ways we’re accomplishing that.

“The initiative brings together two like-minded teams that want to see the industry mature through collaboration and interoperability,” said Matt Luongo, Project Lead at Keep. “Working with Summa and their cross-chain architecture means we can address more users on more chains. We look forward to bringing other teams into the fold who share this vision.”

Offering interoperability as a service, Summa was a natural partner for us. At a high level, we’re building a privacy layer for public blockchains, but at the user level, we’re making it possible to maintain ownership and security of personal data and funds. Interoperability of blockchains opens this up to all public chains.

Specifically, Summa is dedicated to building cross-chain solutions that remove the barriers between chains, enabling liquidity, users, and value to flow freely throughout the ecosystem. As a cross-chain architecture provider, they specialize in non-custodial, self-enforcing, and self-settling transactions that enable information and value to move safely and efficiently between chains.

Founded by James Prestwich, Matthew Hammond, and Barbara Liau, Summa’s team has extensive experience in the space, having founded, contributed to, and advised on many of the most predominant blockchain projects since 2014.

“Partnering with Keep was a natural fit. Their tECDSA work allows smart contracts to write to the Bitcoin chain, which complements our read-optimized SPV work,” said James Prestwich, Co-founder of Summa. “Together, our technologies enable a wide array of interoperability use cases.”

Working together as a community will bring greater interoperability of networks and ultimately, compelling product development, innovative solutions, and improved user experience.
