Houston’s notoriety as an epicenter for healthcare innovation makes it the ideal location for an AI in Health Conference.

The city currently ranks as the third fastest growing tech ecosystem for early-stage companies in the country, with last year’s overall VC deal count exceeding 200. The volume of deal flow is a reflection of the density of talent working towards a mutual goal — innovate, integrate, and improve patient experience and outcomes.

Rice University and the Texas Medical Center

One of the principal drivers of this movement is the proximity of academia, clinicians, entrepreneurs, and health systems at the Texas Medical Center that work collaboratively on groundbreaking technologies. Twenty-one hospitals serve more than 10 million patients every year, Houston is a city rich with data and a great need for artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The importance of bringing together multidisciplinary groups to discuss AI’s impact on medical innovations and the outlook of how it will revolutionize patient care over the next decade lies in the numbers. Its influence on the industry is already recognizable in areas like imaging, genomics, and mental health.

A recent study found that using advanced imaging and AI improved tumor classification by resulting in faster and more accurate diagnoses in less than 3 minutes — three times faster than manual efforts. In medical imaging, a recent AI tool has been shown to recognize speech patterns in those with Alzheimer’s with 95% accuracy.

AI’s influence on medical innovation allowed for more efficient and intuitive healthcare for patients, and the healthcare industry’s outlook resembles the coming shifts as a result of increased AI usage. The medical imaging market is projected to grow by over %400 in the next 10 years, while the AI in genomics market to witness a CAGR of 50.2% and accumulate revenue of $18,213 million by 2030.

According to a 2021 study, 62% of healthcare organizations are considering investing in artificial intelligence and machine learning and 72% of companies believe AI will be critical to how they do work in the future. Furthermore, 50% of organizations intend to implement and adopt AI strategies by 2025.

Houston is at the center of these projections, and the AI in Health Conference will draw upon the city’s robust medical ecosystem to explore how artificial intelligence will continually play an integral role in healthcare across multiple disciplines. The conference is presented by Ken Kennedy Institute at Rice University and is currently accepting abstracts.

2022 AI in Health Conference Call for Abstracts

The Ken Kennedy Institute invites prospective speakers to submit abstracts that highlight algorithms, use-cases, and solutions that support data-driven discovery and decision-making in Health. The agenda for the conference includes invited keynote speakers, technical talks, an exhibit hall, networking receptions, and poster presentations. Accepted abstracts will be asked to deliver a 20-minute presentation, including Q&A, as part of the conference program. Presentations will be recorded and published online on the Ken Kennedy Institute’s YouTube channel.
