Behind the scenes at the Esporão Assobio campaign

The Douro, in Portugal is a region mostly famous for its Port. Assobio is small wine brand that is situated in the Douro but produces regular wines. Esporão, Assobio’s mother brand, asked us to strengthen the relationship between the label and the region. The challenge was to make a small brand like Assobio stand out, while at the same time shining a light on the Douro as a regular wine region.

Assobio literally stands out, because of its high altitude.
The solution was right in front of us, because what makes Assobio stand out is its spectacular location. The Assobio vineyard lies at the edge of the Quinta dos Murcas estate, located at a high altitude on very steep slopes and hidden from the sun. The estate prides itself in creating new wines under these dramatic circumstances. Being experimental in such a traditional region is a matter of changing perspectives. Now that’s refreshing!

The making off the Esporão Assobio campaign

A top-down campaign
This insight of changing in perspective is literally visualized in the campaign that followed by showing the estate from the top. With a bottle of Assobio placed underneath a drone, we flew over the estate and filmed its unique landscape from above. By looking long enough at one of Assobio’s DOOH executions, one can spot someone walking or cycling by slowly in the distance. This is how we captured the region’s serenity and tranquility, which neatly ties it into our Slow Forward campaign for Esporão that launched earlier this year.
