Ketto, Priyanka Chopra, Facebook and a series of nonprofits joined hands for the first-of-its kind Liveathon called #SocialForGood. The event went live earlier this week on November 27. Other Indian celebrities like Ayushmann Khurrana, Diljit Dosanjh, Afroz Shah and Karishma Mehta were part of the initiative too.

The campaign is basically to create awareness for mental health, cyber bullying and celebrating women entrepreneurship. Priyanka is a global icon and a prominent advocate of humanitarian causes. There’s no denying that power of social media, Ketto’s powerful and professional platform, and the prestige of Priyanka’s star quality together created quite a bang.

Priyanka took to Facebook and shared a post promoting the campaign. She wrote:

“Over the past few years, I’ve personally experienced the power of social media globally towards causes that I hold dear to my heart. SO Here I am…announcing my partnership with Facebook for #SocialForGood Live-Athon to bring awareness to causes that matter, celebrate some real-life stories and also inspire people to do their bit for the community. Lots more announcements and updates coming up!!.”

“Social Media has been playing a pivotal role in recent times to bring awareness to issues that affect minorities, local communities and even matters of national importance. With #SocialForGood, our endeavor is to shine a spotlight on some of the fantastic work our community of public figures and socially-responsible volunteers have been doing to bring positive change, not just on the internet but our everyday lives. With a global force like Priyanka Chopra joining hands with us, this mission to spread the message of Social For Good will definitely make a huge impact,” Saket Jha Saurabh (Head of Entertainment Partnerships, Facebook India) said while talking about the initiative.

Women entrepreneur panel discussion

Following an insightful panel discussion on mental health, Priyanka Chopra, the host for #SocialForGood, spoke to a group of successful women entrepreneurs on subjects ranging from using social media as a powerful tool, striking it out on their own and helping other women in their own journeys.

And this is only the beginning, there will be more developments on the social good front going forward. “Earlier this year we changed our whole company’s mission,” said Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg earlier this year.

“For the first time in our history we did this, to now focus on giving people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.” A task that is no small feat. To make it a successful undertaking, Facebook is looking to its users. “What our job really is is to go see how people use this platform to do good and then build tools to help you do more,” said explained Zuckerberg. “If we could focus a little more on strengthening our communities it can help us build more common ground and move forward together.”
