The York/Sheridan Program in Design Class of 2016 presented “The Intermission” an exciting grad expo that displayed the accomplishments and projects of the graduating class. There were many different types of design on display including communication design, physical design, information design, and interactive & motion design. Students worked individually to create something of their very own that ranged from fonts and packaging to useful everyday apps. Also featured in The Intermission was Keyobi’s very own and superstar talented designer, Taylor Emmerson!

Taylor had showcased some of his exciting projects. He also showed us some of his classmates’ projects. Taylor’s projects included Countdown: an information design project that was a stunning infographic on space shuttle launches, their objectives, destination, and other statistics. Taylor also created a display typeface called Marotte that is based on Source Sans. Mayotte has a business casual feel that is perfect for the web as well as in large print applications. Last but certainly not least, is the app, Ploratory. Ploratory is the app that will help you find interesting locations through different challenges that you can do alone or with friends! This is a great app for people who like to step out of their comfort zones and try new things. Ploratory will help users get beyond their personal boundaries. Other notable projects were Chemistea, the adorably packaged tea set that comes with different teas set in test tubes, along with a beaker mug that fits perfectly with the science theme. Biodegradable sugar straws! With the environment being a growing concern, packaging that will not add to the waste on our planet are all the rage! These sugar straws have two uses: empty the sugar int your beverage, then use the straw as a stir stick. This will reduce the amount of packaging and waste used on airlines and other locations that sell beverages. StressOmeter is an app that will let the user visualize stress levels using heart rate changes and skin responses such as sweating. Chronic stress is a big issue for many people because of the busy lives we lead and it’s hard to tune everything out. With this app, you can identify what is causing you extra stress and solve the problem!

Feel free to check out the York/Sheridan Intermission to see all these amazing projects by the hard-working graduates. It was an incredibly memorable experience! We wish all the graduates all the best and if anyone is exploring some career opportunities, check us out.
