Early stage startup founders wear multiple hats. One of these hats is recruitment. Without recruiting the right team for the bus in the right seat, things can fall apart fast in a startup. Time after time, it’s been proven that it’s all about the team! The goal is to always strive to be that one amazing company that views its people as a super power. In this week’s post, we bring you tips on devising a recruitment strategy.

1. Set it out in paper. While this is not a business plan, recruitment planning should begin early on and be written down. This means identifying the competencies needed for the roles, budget, and target audience. The first step is knowing what you’re looking for so you can figure where to find the right candidates!

2. Pipeline is the key. Why? Because no matter how good the culture is, there is always transition in a company team. Someone quits, gets removed, or maybe even retires. Companies continuously change over time and the same with people. Having a pipeline allows you to have a greater flexibility, reach goals and have a better bottom line. Currently, the majority of organizations have a reactive approach. This means, they only start looking when they actually need someone. Pipeline reduces the time to hire and improves the quality of hire. This is why we built Keyobi to help your talent pipeline!

3. Utilize your inbound leads. We wrote a post on this one, but this should be one of your main channels to bringing in talent. First and foremost, it is pretty cost effective. It won’t cost you an arm and a leg to get a career page up and going. Secondly, with a compelling message and culture, you are on your way to attract the right talent!

4. Slap on some evaluation metrics. Evaluation helps you to step up the game. Some metrics to keep track while evaluating recruitment strategies include:

  • Cost
  • Number of Responses
  • Number Interviewed
  • Number Hired
  • Average response time
  • Cost per hire (cost ÷ # hired)

Keep wearing that recruitment hat and always be open to conversation with talent! Let us know your thoughts @KeyobiTalent.
