The LGBTQ community keeps fighting for equal rights worldwide. Unfortunately, the game is not always fair, especially when it comes to conservative countries. The recent case in Lebanon is truly alarming. Backed by religious leaders and radical activists the authorities had to cancel Beirut Pride concert. What is more, the Palace also took part in the decision. The justification of cancellation looks ridiculous. That is, the event promotes same-sex marriage and may result in “debauchery and immorality”.

Sadly, the decision is also an expression of the street sentiments expressed by conservative communities and violence threats distributed in social media. Moreover, there is hardly ever be found any link between same-sex marriage promotion and cultural event. As it is often said in excuse, the concert has been canceled for safety reasons. It is, however, highly doubtful that Lebanese LGBTQ community will feel safe after the move. But who cares?
