October 8, 2019 is marked by calender by almost all LGBTQ people in the US and around the globe. The decision to be made this day is considered as “one of the biggest days in LGBTQ legal history”. The Supreme Court will rule about three cases of potential discrimination of LGBTQ employees. The legislation in question is Title VII of the Civil Rights Act dated back to 1964. The question to decide is whether this act protects again discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. If decided negatively, the employee could be fired for just being LGBTQ. Hopefully, that will not be the case.

To emphasize importance of protection against discrimination numerous LGBTQ organizations plan to make a coordinated move to Washington DC. According to Housing Works, protest organizer, the case is of the utmost importance as it deals with “attempt to legalize discrimination against our communities, particularly trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming folk”. Other human rights advocating organizations including the Reclaim Pride Coalition, The New York Transgender Advocacy Group, VOCAL-NY, and Gay Men’s Health Crisis expressed their solidarity and decided to participate in the event. “We have confidence that our position will prevail, but win or lose, the entire LGBTQ community will need to remain engaged in the ongoing work of achieving full equality,” added Housing Works spokesperson. Let us hope for equality to be restored.
