For so many reasons “Same Drugs” is my favorite track on Coloring Book. There’s something about the whole Peter Pan comparison that sets the stage for this entire song. He never implies that he and his friends stopped taking drugs, just that they don’t do the same ones anymore. Like, after enough time they just grew up and realized what type of shit was a waste of time and what type of shit makes you grow and, more importantly, what type of shit makes you grow apart. Given the fact that he’s got an entire album called Acid Raps, I’d like to speculate that his grown-up drugs of choice tend to lean towards the psychedelic end of the spectrum. But this song is so much more than that, Chance has such a good way of reminding us how painful it is to grow up and how easy it is to loose sight of the positivity in our lives and drift away from the things we hold dear. Most of all, this song can mean whatever you need it to mean in your life, that’s why it’s such an amazing force to begin with.

In this video we find Chance at a piano singing a duet with a Muppet of sorts. The video version of the song is kicked up a notch because it includes guests like John Legend, Eryn Allen Kane, Yebba, Francis Starlite, and Macie Stewart. Press play below and enjoy.
