In a sea of sound — la — like bands and songs, new track by Hater, “Had it All” is a stand out gem.

The new single “Had It All” by Swedish indie band Hater has a lot going on for it. A warm bass riff, shiny jingling surf guitar, and gorgeous vocals by lead singer Caroline Landah. All layered over a bouncy drum beat, this song has all the basic elements (minus harmony) that make up your classic, early Beatles tune. Despite all of that, the new band has a few things going against them.

If you Google Hater, your not likely to get results showing up for a young Swedish band. Even if you googled Haters “Band” your more likely to get the 90s grunge band. Besides that, as good as the band is, their sound doesn’t stand out all that much from similar acts like Alvvays or early Best Coast. Yet the appeal for these bands doesn’t come from how groundbreaking (or not) their sound is. It comes from the desire to want to hear some good old guitar and drum Rock n’ Roll. Hater does just that terrifically. All covered over with some “sweet” sugar coated vocals.

Haters Had It All” goes perfectly alongside recent indie classics like Alvvays standout “Archie” or “Timothy” by Tennis.

Haters debut album You Tried is out March 10. Take a listen to the single “Had It All” below.
