I have so many issues with Kanye, like most people I’m sure, that the list is starting to look thicker than the screenplay for the fucking Godfather (fuckin’ boring-ass-waste-of-time of a movie). That being said, I’ve been waiting for this collaboration for a long time. Both Cudi and Kanye struggle severally with mental health issues and that’s a topic that’s very present in my life. From my own battles with depression as the world and life seem to get heavier day after day to the chemical make-up that I was gifted from my mother. The curse of a creative mind.

Mental health is such a bitch of a topic cause people can just be hardwired with issues that come as a consolation prize with being born or everything can be chill as fuck until one day something changes. Something switches internally and slowly it seems harder and harder to see the light in the world. People die, the outside world gets darker and darker till all of a sudden everything that once brought them happiness only numbs the pain at best. Kanye seems to be the reckless poster-boy for mental health issues. From his constant juvenile tantrums to his ability to alienate thousands of people in a single performance. While Cudi, continues to be a beacon of hope for the rest of us who strive to believe that we can still take control over the darkness and that every sign of light is proof that there’s more brightness behind that glow. When Cudi decided to openly address his Psychological disorders to his fanbase, he allowed himself to be vulnerable enough to admit that he was having issues bigger than himself. The fact that he was seeking help opened a door. For a man of that Celebrity, in a field that is mostly rated on the thickness of your skin, it really said something meaningful. It allowed a generation, who’s been lead to believe that vulnerability equals weakness, to see that choosing a path that is rooted in genuine truth over spectacle, is a much more respectable and honorable way to express yourself. Nothing represents “The truth shall set you free” more than this sentiment.

This track is everything I was hoping for and more. We get to hear Cudi speaking from a survivors voice that is surfacing from the darkness and putting in the work to move forward to brighter times. We also get to hear the genuine side of Kanye that rarely surfaces these days. Proof there is still a person in there that wants to see the world more clearly. Although that side is seldom present anymore, I knew that if there was any hope of seeing it again, Cudi could make that happen. If you need any proof that you can make it through the darkness then listen to this song. Oh yeah, and the beat slaps like a mother fucker.
