Sleep Party People sound like they have stopped scoring dark bizarre nights and are now scoring sunny bizarre days.

Sleep Party People, the extremely overly looked band from Denmark, have been harnessing the weird side of music since their beginning. Turning the weird side of sound into some of the most interesting and unique sounds in modern music. Just listen to their should be classic, debut single, “I’m Not Human At All”. It’s one of the most epic and amazing songs from the past decade and almost no one I talk to knows it. With the help of alien like vocal effects and and a synthesizer that sounds like the mother ship coming to take her children back to the home planet, its just bizarre and dark enough to stand out from a thousand wanna be psychedelic bands that have already been forgotten. Looking back however, the song structure and instrument arrangement are far less foreign then they sounds. Band leader Brian Batz has been messing around with this, weird-meets-pop, formula, for almost ten years now. New single “The Missing Steps” sounds like he may have found the right balance to finally break it in the US.

Part of this new balance comes from the fact Brian is not using intense effects on his vocals. (Vocal effects which he almost always used on previous albums and that more often than not, left his music heavy handed on the bizarre side.) Long time fans might be sadden by this but it’s about time we hear what he can do without them. These, cleaner and sunnier vocals help raise the instrumentation to the sun. The song sounds like it was written to have kids dancing all across the globe. Sleep Party People sound ready to be on festivals with the likes of Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips and, Animal Collective. They deserve to be at festivals across the states drawing crowds of their own.

If you hear this track and think that Sleep Party People are a rip off rather than the real thing, your just being fooled by how easy they makes it sound. The bands debut single, almost ten years ago, was the score to lonely nights under the moon. Their newest single is the sound of a party under the sun. They went from night to day without losing any of their ambition.
