The work of French portrait stencilist, Christian Guémy, (known by the moniker C215) in Jardin Rouge (an artist’s residency, 25 minutes outside of Marrakesh)

Street arts are fast giving a greater twist of perspective to the African heritage and struggles. These regular murals and paintings either bring a soothing harmony or stimulate your consciousness with its rich blend of colours, shapes, ideas and nerves.

Done in sanctioned corners, scribbled or sprayed across the neighbourhood with or without permission, their ingenuity and creativity could be likened to the seriousness of a child at play. Yet, you would have to visit to see the most fascinating murals of your entire travel life.

It’s quite divergent how the street artist’s ethos doesn’t feed solely off your slush for them. They grin delighted at the morning mirror knowing their love for creativity and in-depth beauty stays woke. And with the almighty technology dying to enhance — but not replace — the human creative spark, we’re almost there — a crossroad with sufficient players who’d cross the aisle to activate the African street view with augmented reality.

From Essaouira to Maboneng, tags or graffiti and, even the all-too-familiar ink paintings…
