Program in the year you live in!

I “stole” or I was “inspired” for this magnificent idea by fabulous Gary Vee Keynote you can see here.

This keynote was inspiration for this post.

What he is saying is that he earned his money by marketing in the year he lives. Meaning in the white-space of stuff that is right now happening. And being the first the be there, so when “normal” people figure it out, you are already there.

His example — started selling wines on Internet when people were swearing never to put their credit card on any web site. Now, this is normal. Buying Google ad word WINE for 5 cents and not being outbid for 9 months!

After everyone was doing it, he was profiting. People came, and he was already number one. So, when someone mentions you Snapchat, don’t snap on that person. :)

Programming in the year we live in.

So why not do program in the year we live in. Why not embrace it and let what we do on air reflect our and lives of our listeners.

Things change. They change a lot. And we don’t notice that they changed because we always do it the way we did before.

IT TAKES SERIOUS EFFORT TO GET OUT OF THE RUT OF EVERYDAY LIFE.

You should stop being busy, and start doing stuff that matters. You should stop doing “busy work”. Same show prep, and same show you do day after day. Just because that is how it is done.

HOW IT WILL MAKE EFFECT ON MY LISTENERS? — the everyday question you should ask yourself!

Like some aikido fighter, instead of being strong, well muscled, you use the energy of your opponent to win. Force yourself to look outside how things are done and do use what is happening around you to give you momentum.

Instead of always talking, take your time to notice. Listen. Watch. Think. And then be there. Don’t forget — without executing all this noticing WILL BE REGARDED AS JUST BEING LAZY!

Try stuff. Fail. Try again. Until you succeed. And then try again something new. Because when you succeeded others will follow you. You will need something new. But, don’t forget, things already changed, you need is necessary anyways.

The result will be you who is in the touch with reality. You, doing radio for the listeners, and not just for the sake of doing radio because you are getting payed for it.

By all this I don’t suggest to be just focused on various fads that are coming and going. You should be tuned in to your audience. And be interested in what is happening right now. And then, instead of following a trend, maybe you could be riding on top of one.
