Portfolio Profiles: Kanler
Meet the company using technology to make homebuilding and renovation as seamless as a smartphone app.
As of the end of 2016, the value of every home in America combined was a massive $29.6 trillion.
To put that in perspective, that’s more than the combined GDPs of both the United States and China. And the industry is growing every year, averaging 9.7% between 2012 and 2017. The total real estate market in the U.S. is even bigger, generating $345 billion in revenue annually.
That massive market is Kanler’s opportunity. The self-described “high-tech, service-driven general contractor” makes the homebuilding and renovation process as seamless as a smartphone app. Based out of Redwood City, California, they provide residential, commercial, and real estate investment services.
“Millennials are used to being able to hire a car by tapping a few buttons on their smartphone. Kanler provides a similar experience for construction and renovation,” says Stephen Porter, Principal of Real Estate at Kiddar Capital.
Kanler caters to customers looking for a one-stop shop for turnkey development services, both residential and commercial, providing complete management of the project. That includes an accurate, transparent estimate of project costs; assurance of quality work through vetted subcontractors; and a dashboard through which the customer can sign paperwork and keep track of their project’s progress and budget.
Kanler also markets itself to the high-quality general contractors and subcontractors who perform their development work. The contractors provide the construction services; Kanler provides a consistent project pipeline, a network of other quality industry professionals, administrative and marketing assistance, and management to ensure the project fits the customer’s needs.
“Kanler is a next-generation contractor. They’re technologically-enabled and provide comprehensive service,” says Cheryl Foil, Principal of Kiddar Capital’s Venture Group. “The market they’re targeting is absolutely enormous.”
Kanler is currently most active in California, but also has locations in Salt Lake City, Dallas, Denver, Atlanta, Washington DC, and New York.
