See-Saw on Schools and the Queen Learns to Zoom
You don’t need me to tell you what everyone’s talking about on the playground these days. Back to school has never before been a time for big decisions (other than maybe whether your kids REALLY need a new backpack every year) — but this year it is, on all sides. There is, of course, a viral video trending on YouTube that sums it up perfectly, but I can’t say it’s funny. None of this is very funny as far as I’m concerned.
What is funny? Looking at the back-to-school aisles at the big box stores. At least someone’s feeling optimistic.
In other news, there was a big COVID outbreak at a sleepaway camp in Georgia this week, which prompted the CDC to remind us that no matter what back-to-school philosophy you follow, baseline safety measures (like wearing masks) is still pretty important.
Meanwhile, for some reason the internet is obsessed with the royal family this week, although nothing truly newsworthy has happened except that the queen appeared in her very first public video call. Admittedly, the video of her daughter, Princess Anne, giving her a quick setup lesson beforehand is pretty cute. And a good reminder that we really are all in this together.

“My children have completely reopened my eyes to the world and I jokingly always say I’m back at university. I’m back having to learn every single day because they challenge me in that way.”
