Have you ever hoped for a holiday dedicated to celebrating just your closest girlfriends?

Look no further, February 13 is the day devoted to gals.

If you don’t watch the TV show “Parks and Recreation,” you might not be familiar with Galentine’s Day. Created by Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler) on the show in season 2, it was such a hit it was brought back in season 4. Such a hit in fact, it is now an official holiday, according to Urban Dictionary. Websites like Buzzfeed, Wikipedia, Huffington Post and many others have written articles about this special day; it even has its own Twitter account.

There is a quote repeated in several different articles in Bustle where Knope portrays the festivity, “Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home and just kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus, frittatas.”

Galentine’s Day is for all your gals, single or taken. It is a day to leave the guys at home and have a girls day out (or a girls day in and you can kick the guys out instead). On the show, Galentine’s was celebrated over waffles and other breakfast goodies.

If you need Galentine’s Day celebration ideas, here are a few suggestions:

Hosting a slumber party — a classic for a girls night in — with the combination of a spa day or a shopping spree is one good option.

A bake-off or a cookie exchange for those of us partial to cooking, or potluck where everyone brings something to share. And if you want to stay loyal to the origins of the holiday, a Parks and Recreation marathon is another good idea for the crowd that would rather stay in.

However you spend Galentine’s Day, whether with your girlfriends, co-workers or family, here’s wishing you a special celebration for the women in your life.
