In its inaugural survey on listener habits, Kids Listen — a grassroots organization of advocates for high-quality audio content for children — found that 74% of respondents’ children took action after listening to podcasts. The children initiated conversations about what they’d heard, they requested related activities, and they told other people what they’d learned. Kids don’t just passively listen to podcasts; they listen and then DO something. On Earth Day, use these podcast episodes to inspire your children to do something, too.

Cool Facts About Animals

This is a podcast by and for kids featuring fun and surprising facts about animals. For Earth Day, Cool Facts About Animals will be talking about how climate change has affected animals like the sea turtle, the adelie penguin, and monarch butterflies, and what kids can do to help.

Ear Snacks

Ear Snacks is a musical podcast for young kids about the world, hosted by award-winning musicians Andrew and Polly. In their continuing series about seeds, Andrew & Polly ask kids around the world what it takes to make something — a plant, a person, an idea — grow. Ear Snacks listeners are transported to a city farm in Vienna Austria, a seed store in Santa Monica, a kitchen in Melbourne Australia, a pepper farm in the Ozarks, and a Peace Garden maintained by foster youth in South Central Los Angeles.

Little Stories for Tiny People

Little Stories for Tiny People features original stories filled with humor and positive messages. This week kids can hear Hope in the Garden: An Earth Day Story, about a group of animals who decide to work together to save the garden they’ve endangered through their shortsighted actions. Children will learn about the power of working together for positive change.

Tumble Science Podcast for Kids

Tumble is a science podcast for kids, to be enjoyed by the entire family. For Earth Day, join hosts Lindsay and Marshall as they discover how the tiny, adorable pika is helping scientists study climate change! Temperatures in their mountain habitat are getting warmer, and rain and snow isn’t as predictable as it used to be. Scientists have discovered that the number of pikas in certain areas are shrinking — or even disappearing. But some populations are doing just fine. A scientist named Pika Jo wants to find out why. An unexpected disaster leads her to a surprising discovery.

What If World

Mr. Eric hosts this comedic storytelling podcast for kids, which features real kids’ questions that spark his inventive stories. What If World’s Earth Day episode will reveal the answer to “What if Mr. Eric answered the longest question ever?” The episode will tie up some loose ends from the previous April Fool’s special, in which the sun was stolen! Too bad all of What If World is SOLAR POWERED…but maybe that’s the least of their troubles. Can Petrina, Abacus, JFKat, and Mr. Mouser get the sun back from the clutches of the not-so-dreaded Phoenix Taco?! Lessons include: renewable energy is plentiful enough to power a whole world; if you have a caring elder or grandparent in your life, they are deserving of your respect and gratitude.

You can find all of these podcasts on your favorite podcast apps, including the Kids Listen iOs mobile app. Kids Listen is a grassroots advocacy organization that promotes high-quality audio content for children. To find out more, visit www.kidslisten.org.
