Storypillar

Ever heard of a ghost with allergies? Well…you’re about to! Grab a box of tissues (or ten) and break out your very best “Achoo-BOO!” Storypillar’s off to South Korea for Episode 2.6 to float around with a sneezy ghost, climb some tall-tasteriffic mountains, and pick up great advice for what to do when we’re feeling scared. And before (or after) you gobble all your Halloween goodies in one sitting, take a listen to an extra special Bean-o-meter Check featuring Fred the Dog from What if World. We’ll check in with our minds and bodies, talk about toothbrushes and really long tongues, and try out a new trick for facing our fears.

Like You

It’s spooky season, so in this episode, we’ll see what we can learn about mindfulness from creepy crawly creatures like snakes, spiders, and bugs. 🐍🕷️🪲

Tumble Science Podcast for Kids

It’s a Halloween episode! “There’s a scary secret lurking in the kitty litter…” We’re making a horror movie about a common cat parasite — that can control minds! Toxoplasma gondii makes mice lose their fear of cats, in a plot to take over the world! Biologist Sebastian Lourido helps us tell the true tale of toxoplasma’s quest for cat domination, and what scientists are doing to stop the parasite in its banana-shaped tracks.

The Past and the Curious

Edgar Allan Poe is about as famous as an author can be, but that might be owed largely to Rufus Wilmot Griswold. Rufus didn’t really like Poe and wrote a scathing obituary and biography on the man, creating the dark figure many of us think Poe to be. In addition to the story of Poe and Rufus, Mick does a dramatic reading of “The Raven” a poem that made Edgar Allan Poe a literary superstar.

Dorktales Storytime Podcast

Imagine a moonlit night, a crackling campfire, and the echoing laughter of friends — that’s the setting for Dorktales Storytime’s ‘Goop Hog,’ the slimy, ooey-gooey, algae-dripping creature who rose from the deepest depths of Lumen Lagoon. But bubbling beneath the surface of this Halloween tale lies important messages for social and emotional development. This is more than just a spooky adventure; it’s an opportunity to learn about empathy, being open-minded, and giving others a chance.

Good Words Podcast

Getting all dressed up for Halloween? Go over the top with this episode of the vocabulary-building Good Words Podcast! Miss Lynn explains the word OSTENTATIOUS with an excerpt from Mark Twain’s book The Innocents Abroad, a breakdown of the phrase, “Dressed to the nines,” and an overview of cosplay and historical costuming from contributor Glynnis.

Newsy Pooloozi

Get into the spooky season with Newsy Pooloozi’s Autumn Festivals Episode. Did you know around the world there are more ghostly customs and traditions beyond Halloween?! Yes, Asia has the Hungry Ghost Festival, Mexico the el Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), and even old England has All Souls Day, which some say morphed into Halloween. And as the nights get longer and cooler, there are loads of other seasonal festivals celebrated every autumn from India’s Diwali and Guru Nanak to the UK’s Bonfire Night and, of course, Thanksgiving in North America. Hear how they all came about and are celebrated today!

Circle Round

(“The Basilisk’s Stare” by Sabina Hahn)

In this tale inspired by a Polish legend, Nabiyah Be (Black Panther, Daisy Jones & The Six) and Evan Whitten (Ahsoka, Mr. Robot) face off against a fantastical creature whose gaze turns people to stone.

Unspookable

Do you believe in ghosts? That’s a question most of us have asked or have been asked before. How do you respond? Is it something you may have seen? Something you may have felt? Or has the presence of ghosts in popular culture and on YouTube or TikTok convinced you that they might just exist? Well, however you answer these questions, we think it’s time to set aside a few minutes to discuss the possibility that there just may be something out there. That and more on this episode of Unspookable.

So why do some of us intentionally do things that are scary, for fun?! And is there anything good about getting scared? But Why: A Podcast for Curious Kids takes a look at why people like being frightened on purpose (think scary movies, haunted houses, and roller coasters) with Marc Anderson, co-director of the Recreational Fear Lab in Aarhus, Norway
