The Past and the Curious

The most famous Ghost ship of all-time, the Mary Celeste — a ship which was found sailing completely unoccupied in 1890’s. But rather than build more on the myth (which is really fun), we wonder why it is the most famous ghost ship in history — because it’s a thing that’s happened dozens of times. Spooky!

April Eight Songs & Stories

Dear listener, this witch is not called the Which Witch for nothing. Is she a good witch? Is she a bad witch? Whose to say? You never know which witch you’ll get when you meet up with her. But Gilbert Goblin needs some help and he has no one else to turn to…

Sparkle Stories — “The Teal Pumpkin Project”

Knox and Cole are best friends and have been since they were two years old. There are many things they have in common and some things that are very different. Knox, for instance, is a vegetarian — and when Cole turned 8 years old, he learned that he was seriously allergic to nuts and eggs. This was challenging at first but with the support of his family and friends, Cole was able to find ways to make sure he never contacted nuts or eggs. But when he realized that Halloween treats often contained nuts, he wasn’t sure what to do about Trick or Treating with Knox. And then he learned about the Teal Pumpkin Project, which turned everything around for him — and his best friend.

Podikins — Episode 012 — Happy Halloween, Waxless Charlie!

On this special Halloween episode of Podikins, you’re back on the case with the world famous Sound Investigator, Charles H. Waxman. Tag along as you help him solve the case of just who (or what?!) is making all those spooky noises coming from 485 Boneyard Lane!

Good Stuff Kids — Episode #99 Andrew & Polly Break Down Ghostbusters

Andrew & Polly talk about my 4 year old’s favorite song, ‘Ghostbusters’. It was a blast to hear how the song came together, and I even learned about a new instrument! The theremin! Andrew & Polly’s own podcast Ear Snacks just returned for season 2. Don’t miss it.

Little Stories for Tiny People

Little Rabbit’s Halloween is a story for ages 2–6. In this silly (non-scary) story, Little Rabbit is disappointed when no one seems to be able to figure out what he’s dressed as for Halloween. Young listeners will enjoy hearing all of Little Rabbit’s friends’ crazy guesses and will delight in finding out the truth at the end.

The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian — “The Legend of Sleepy Marlowe”

In this standalone episode of our sci-fi serial, the kids aboard the Marlowe 280 Interplanetary Exploratory Space Station find themselves haunted by a headless robot. Engineer Elias tries to make new robot heads to appease the bot, but ends up making a few mistakes along the way. It’s an homage to our favorite Halloween-time tale, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, and an excuse to make a robot werewolf!

Tumble — We Ain’t Afraid of No Ghosts: A Tumble Halloween

Why do people believe in ghosts? And can science ever prove that they don’t exist? We take a road trip with Dennis Waskul, a sociologist who traveled to graveyards and “haunted” houses to hear ghost stories, from the people who lived them. He wanted to find out why 50% of Americans believe in ghosts. What he discovered might spook you — in a good way! (Note: This episode is NOT scary.)

Book Club For Kids — EPISODE 54: THE GIRL WHO DRANK THE MOON BY KELLY BARNHILL

Who says witches and monsters and dragons have to be the bad guys? That’s certainly not the case in Kelly Barnhill’s 2017 Newbery Award winning novel “The Girl Who Drank the Moon.” Our readers from Woodbridge, Virginia discuss the power of the moon and how much sorrow children can handle with host Kitty Felde. Writer Kelly Barnhill discusses fake news and how swamp monster popped into her head out of nowhere. KCRW Morning Edition host Chery Glaser is our celebrity reader.
