Hey guys! Right now my family is spending more time at home and that also means more time on our devices. I came across the Vodafone Digital Family Pledge and thought I would share it with you all.

It’s basically a fun and free online tool that helps you and your family create tech rules together for your home.

Watch this to take a peek at the Digital Family Pledge:

Inside the Vodafone Digital Family Pledge:

  • You start by creating your family. You can add as many adults and children as you want.
  • The pledge covers 4 main topics :
  • Screen time
  • Cyberbullying
  • Social Media
  • Gaming

You go through a series of questions as a family, learning about each topics as you go along

At the end of each section, each family member can make a personal pledge or you can make a pledge as a family. This is something you will agree to do moving forward. So, for example, everyone agrees not to use their devices at the dinner table.

The tool with automatically populate your commitments and create a personalised pledge for your family

You can then print it off and stick it up in your home as a reminder for everyone to follow the rules.

Here’s what our family pledge looks like (don’t forget to create your own family pledge):

Here’s what I really like about this tool :

Here’s what I really like about this tool :

  1. It’s easy to use and only takes about 10–15 minutes to complete.
  2. It is FREE
  3. The questions are very straightforward, so it is suitable even for young children as long as you do it together as a family
  4. You can add as many adults & children into the pledge., meaning everyone in your home can be part of this
  5. You don’t need a laptop to do this. It can be done over your phone or on a tablet!
  6. My favourite part is that it gets families talking about tech use and the online world, which rarely happens

Why your family should try out the Vodafone Digital Family Pledge:

The pledge gets you to reflect on your own device use too (not just your children’s!).

You will be surprised to know what your partner or children have to say about your phone or device use at home.

It also gives you ideas on things you can do as a family online. For example, using augmented reality to keep your family active.

Having conversation prompters like this is very important. As parents, we are the role models for our children and sometimes we might not realize that our kids are watching what we do, even online. It’s time to have an open discussion with your family.

We can’t run away from technology, it is here to stay. So, it is best to teach our kids to use it responsibly and we can do that by doing it as a family.

Check out the Vodafone Digital Family Pledge since it gives you good pointers on how to start conversations like this at home.
