Disney Preparing for Epcot’s 30th Anniversary
LAKE BUENA VISTA, United States. CFNews13. September 19, 2012. (English). -Epcot turns 30 October 1, and Walt Disney World is planning a big party for its second theme park. Epcot, which originally stood for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, was originally Walt Disney’s plan for a city of the future. The Walt Disney Company decided to create a theme park instead. EPCOT Center opened on October 1, 1982, almost 16 years after he died. In 1994, the “center” was dropped in the park’s name. Now it is simply known as Epcot.
For the 30th anniversary, Disney will host a series of history presentations, featuring Disney Imagineers, and Disney legend Marty Sklar.
- 1–2 p.m. — Designing the Future — Past and Present: A panel of Disney Imagineers remembers 30 years of building tomorrow!
- 4:30–6 p.m. — Epcot: How it Changed the World with Marty Sklar
- 6:30–8 p.m. — Epcot: How it Changed the World with Marty Sklar
There will also be a big presentation at 3 p.m. featuring Disney leaders, and performances by Mariachi Cobre and Voices of Liberty.
Disney will cap off the evening with a special presentation of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.
And Disney will also have a special line of retro Epcot logo t-shirts, hats, pins and other merchandise.
