Growing up and looking back at school during the elementary years when teachers still used projectors to teach school lessons, I never thought technology could become the way it is now. So easily accessible, at the touch of our fingertips and a simple reach into our back jean pocket.

I often have the thought of remembering how excited I was as a third grader to see the smart board being installed in my classroom. I thought of it as a fun way of a new type of learning.

Technology has become an everyday tool that society uses to communicate feelings with one another friendships, work, and lifestyles. Think of all the ways in which you can use your smart devices. There are thousands!

I really never thought technology would transform the way we become educated in today’s world of schooling and education. I remember in the third grade, we learned how to write in cursive utilizing a workbook which we would draw over and trace the letters to learn. And now children aren’t even shown this practice in schools anymore because they have online generators for cursive handwriting.

Once I started learning about how children are being educated in classrooms today, I hated the fact that technology was taking over. Since I have a personal connection with how people are now being educated since I have a lot of family members in the education workplace, I hear a lot of insight of how kids are performing in schools today. It seems as if the younger generations lack a form of communication since the ways they have been learning have been primarily through the use of smart devices.

Since growing up and going through college, I hated the idea of technology taking over our world, but in some cases, it can benefit us as a whole and for those kids in elementary school gaining an education. I started doing a lot of online research about younger children and how they have become affected by the use of technology in the classroom along with how they make friendships and grow within their own personal lives.

I’ve learned that it helps them learn in various ways and there are different means of suiting a child’s needs through technology. I’ve also seen research studies according to the Bright Wheel Blog that technology:

- Encourages the growth of fine motor abilities
- Boosts response time and coordination
- Boosts emotional and social growth
- Encourage cooperation and connections
- Increases understanding of culture
- Aids in the formation of language
- Provide chances for information processing

Although the use of smart devices is usually frowned upon, there are so many ways that kids can benefit from the use of the Internet. After doing research, I learned that having an open mind is essential to learning the benefits of new ideas. I will now see the rise in the use of technology as a benefit for children and I hope that after reading this post, you do too!
