Who is K.im’s founder?
Me. Kim Dotcom is the founder and chief evangelist at K.im.
What is K.im?
K.im is a content monetization platform. It’s basically a shop in a file. So we are using double encryption to put content into a file container. And in order to open that content, you do a payment within the file. So it’s a pretty cool, new, innovative way to do p2p commerce over the internet.
What is Kimcoin?
Kimcoin is build upon Bitcoin, and it’s utilising liquid and eventually lightning for smooth transactions on the K.im platform.
What lead you to K.im?
Many of you know me as the founder of MegaUpload and Mega.nz — two websites that have accumulated over 300 million users. I started K.im because I wanted to get closer to the original promise of the internet — freedom of speech, freedom of commerce and freedom of Finance. Crypto is taking us there one step closer. Now we need solutions that actually utilise crypto and K.im is going to do exactly that.
What will you be able to do with K.im?
K.im is a new way to do ecommerce online. And the promise that K.im brings is that you can do p2p commerce with full privacy and security. Everything is double encrypted, not only in the file container, but also the payment process. So we’re taking the freedom of transactions to a new level.
What do you expect to launch?
Just like everything that I’ve built in the past, I believe this is going to be a viral success. I think with every user who tries out K.im, more users will come and join the network simply because of its ease of use. It’s so convenient to transact instant real time payments with great statistics and tools that allow you to market your content and your products better than ever before.
Who is K.im for?
I’ve always worked with artists, creators and influences, and K.im was built for them. It’s going to make it much easier for them to deal with their fan base and consumers directly rather than through middle men, gatekeepers and monopolies.
Who is K.im’s CEO?
My name is Emmanuel and I am the CEO and Chief Scientist of K.im.
How did you get involved?
My background is with internet and telecoms, particularly in the field of information security. I’ve also been involved in pioneering internet payment processing efforts as early as 1998 and passionate about new technologies and particularly how blockchain will change society, so the K.im project combines all my interests. It’s about cryptography, mathematics, security, blockchain, FinTech — the opportunity was too good to pass, I had to be involved.
How does the technology work?
Okay, the K.im platform works by empowering content creators to market their work directly to their consumers. They don’t need to be tied up to some centralised platform any longer. This is, in my opinion, revolutionary. And because K.im is not a centralised platform that requires you to register all your personal details to privacy invasion risks are considerably lowered.
How secure is K.im?
So I want to speak a little bit about the double encryption process, which is the heart of the K.im platform and how secure it is. Let me try to explain that without going into mathematical formulas. We have two layers of encryption:
- The first one is client side. And this is important. It means your content is encrypted before it even leaves your computer with a key that nobody else has including K.im. This is to protect the integrity of your content.
- The second layer of encryption is used as an integral part of the payment mechanism. As a publisher, this means nobody’s getting your content without paying. As a consumer, this means you get access to the content the moment you pay for it.
Imagine what this means: a new type of publishing platform, where you are in total control of your creation, and ability to engage your fans and consumers without having to rely on a platform that can change the rules at a whim. Add to this a fair revenue sharing business model where the content creator takes a lion’s share of the sale, not some unseen intermediary. We are building a platform with security in mind. As for cryptographic algorithms, we use industry standards and each step of the process has been carefully audited for security vulnerabilities. Now, we never can get 100% proof that anything is secure, but we believe we have very very high standards when it comes to that.
What’s in store with Bitcoin, Liquid and Lightning?
As the Lightning and Liquid technologies mature on Bitcoin, the K.im platform will take full advantage of what they promise. Basically faster, convenient transactions, and the wider adoption of crypto have always been our primary aim. We hope that the traction generated by K.im will encourage more people to consider technologies such as lightning, as a viable alternatives to Fiat payments.
Why did you choose Liquid?
The K.im project has always been Bitcoin centric, it is important for us to stay with that core technology. However, there are some limitations, particularly the speed of transaction is an issue for a payment processing model. This is why we have chosen to use Liquid technology to launch Kimcoin. With that we get the best of both worlds — we get the security, the stability and reputation of the Bitcoin blockchain, but we also get the speed of transactions that K.im requires for the speedy execution of its processing model.
What other products can we expect?
The cool technology built for K.im can be used for many other services. We plan to launch, a tipping service to demonstrate how alternative remuneration models for artists can be built on top of existing monolithic platforms. We’re also working on our API that will allow developers to build their own innovative services using our technology. I really believe the best use cases haven’t been discovered yet.
Tell us about the roadmap?
The core product, the backend systems, the transaction processing, the double encryption model, the publishing platform, this is already built and stable. What we are working on at the moment (and this is a large task) is all the user interface, wallet processing, and seamless experience that publishers and consumers alike are going to use on our platform beyond the initial launch to more technical users we recently completed. And to launch the product for all, our current launch target is Q3 2020.
What’s K.im’s mission?
In times of global mass surveillance and governments eroding our basic human right to privacy, the internet is more important than ever. With the right tools, we can protect ourselves against these intrusions. And with the right tools we can also make sure that our financial freedom or freedom of speech, and freedom of commerce remains protected. K.im is one of many tools that is going to lead the way in real internet freedom. And I’m very proud of being involved in this project because I think that we all deserve as people to have our human rights respected.
