Announcing the Kin Representatives: The Next Phase of Kin Foundation Governance
The Kin Foundation Expands with Kin Representatives
April 7, 2020 —
Today, the Board of the Kin Foundation is announcing the creation of a new advisory group called the Kin Representatives, and the appointment of its first constituent, Matt Hannam, also known in the Kin Community as u/asparagusm.
Kin Representatives
The Kin Representatives is another step in the Kin Foundation’s continued expansion of governance. The purpose of the Kin Representatives is to be a conduit between the Kin Foundation and the community of developers and holders. Through the Kin Representatives, Kin holders will have the ability to influence how the Kin Reserves are allocated.
Representatives will actively participate in non-executive portions of monthly Board meetings, where the Foundation Board will consider and vote on proposals that will impact the Ecosystem. Although Representatives will not be voting members of the Board, they will have the opportunity to participate in discussions and provide strategic, nonbinding advice, assistance, and support to the Board to influence outcomes. Representatives may also be considered to fill Board positions that become available as the Foundation works towards its goal of becoming a decentralized governing body.
The Representatives will be initially selected by the Board based on their passion for the Kin project, credentials, and experience. Representatives will be expected to enter into confidentiality agreements and will receive a quarterly stipend of Kin, subject to a one-year holding period. There is no set number of Representatives or term of office, but we anticipate that the Foundation Board will select 3 to 4 individuals to serve for an initial 1-year term. Meetings will be held by video-conference on the third Monday of every month at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time. We are not looking for “yes-men” and “yes-women”, but rather users, developers and other Kin holders with independent points of view and new & creative ideas.
Our first Representative is Matt Hannam. Matt lives in Sydney, Australia and has been a member of the KIN community for a long time. More recently, Matt undertook the re-write of the KRE Valid Transaction Guidelines, which was adopted by the Kin Foundation in February 2020. We welcome Matt to the Representatives and look forward to his continued contributions.
The Kin Foundation also recently announced the Kin Community Council, composed of 10 delegates who have come together to make meaningful contributions to the Kin Ecosystem and to represent the best interests of the greater Kin Community. Together with Kin Representatives, these groups will help ensure that the evolution of Kin manifests itself in a way that reflects the views of the Kin Community.
Cryptocurrency gives us a new way to organize and combat the Goliaths through our shared goals of expanding adoption of and demand for Kin. Our philosophy is that by working together, we will succeed together. The Kin Foundation’s goal is to facilitate the entire ecosystem’s transition to a fully decentralized and autonomous network, and the Kin Representatives is another step in that direction.
