In July we announced the launch of the Kin Developer Program, an initiative that offers developers financial incentives of up to 400M KIN and $60,000 USD to create Kin-powered apps, or build Kin-powered experiences in existing apps. Initially we planned to accept 25 developers into the program, but due to the quality of submissions, we happily raised the capacity to 40 — and increased the total amount allotted to the program to nearly $5 million.

We’re almost one month out from our Oct. 2 demo day. This is when the 40 projects that were accepted into the program will get the chance to demonstrate their Kin experiences to the program committee. Teams will need to demonstrate at least one working earn and spend or peer-to-peer Kin integration to get committee approval to move onto the next stage of the program. Once they get the green light from the committee, participants will submit their apps to the App Store or Google Play Store for approval and public launch.

The rate at which apps are approved by either app store can vary, but we hope to see the apps live for Android and iOS shortly after they are submitted. Once apps are approved by the app stores, we’ll share download details with you here.

After the app is available to download in one of the app stores, developers will have completed the first milestone, and they’ll receive the first incentive payout of $15,000 USD and 50,000,000 KIN.

What’s next?

Milestone #2: On Jan. 1, 2019, apps that have 10,000 monthly active wallets (MAW) will receive the second incentive payout of $20,000 USD and 100,000,000 KIN .

Milestone #3: The program’s final milestone will be April 1, 2019. Developers who reach 50,000 MAW will receive the third incentive payout of $25,000 USD and 250,000,000 KIN.

As each one approaches, we’ll outline what reaching each milestone means for the developers, as well as its impact on the Kin Ecosystem. We look forward to getting more questions from the teams as they enter crunch time, and seeing how Kin takes shape in their apps!
