On Wednesday we had a live AMA on our subreddit with Alex Frenkel— VP Product at Kik and head of all Kin related products. This post follows the previous post, summarising the tech AMA we had on December. Over 50 people submitted their questions in the AMA.

We’re using this opportunity to thank everyone who took the time to ask a question and went through the effort of joining our community channels.

We bring the questions (and answers) as they were asked and answered, without editing or filtering.

We will have more of these coming up in the near future, not revolving only around product but also economy, community and more.

We encourage you to join us on Telegram and Reddit, ask your questions, and tell us what you’re interested in (links are below).

Here are the questions and answers

Q: What developments with the kin currency moving forward are you most excited about in the near future?

A: Super excited about providing users with opportunities to earn Kin. Kik is going to leverage Kin to provide a richer and more engaging messaging experience. We are focusing on building the products and believe that great products and ongoing execution will be the best advertising at this stage.

Q: How do you see KIK evolving to compete with the likes of Facebook?

A: Kik has a very different business model. Users are not the product, and they are not going to be sold for ads. Kik will prosper by providing great experiences and real value for users.

Q: I love the idea, and can’t wait for the SDK to integrate into some of our upcoming projects. Moving KIN off of Ethereum is not a small task. Do you have an estimated timeline for when that will happen?

A: Our goal is to have a new version of the SDK by the end of Q1 2018. We are going to share more about the blockchain part in the upcoming weeks. In any case we are not going to take any risks with the migration. Protecting current Kin holders is a top priority for us.

Q: What use cases are currently being implemented for kin in app purchases other than stickers?

A: We currently have stickers only in Kik as it’s the MVP we released, however we are working other spend opportunities in Kik and other Digital Services like the the ability to ‘upgrade’ and account, access exclusive content and unlock special features.

Q: Is there a timeframe for the roadmap release/exchanges/product updates on the roadmap itself?

A: Our goal is to release constant updates about our progress. You can expect to hear from our product managers directly in the upcoming two weeks

Q: How do you anticipate the ability of KIN earning4creating system will impact value of coin from an investor’s stake who chose the Exchange option of purchase? Realistic projection for coin evaluation?

A: The value of Kin will depend on real people actually using Kin for the daily digital experiences. Our focus is on building great experiences and creating a world where millions of people are compensated for the talent they provide through their phones. It would be a world where people win together by working together.

Q: Can you shed some light about which type of services are you in discussion with to integrate Kin? or at least their size of market?

A: We set a goal of integrating with few leading Digital Services by the end of Q1. It’s difficult to assess Market size at the moment. The goal is to release MVP with few large services so we can learn how to integrate with a mass of small-medium partners in the future

Q: Can you summarise your aspirations for Kin the cryptocurrency in one sentence please.

A: In on sentence it would be — Kin is a digital sharing economy of equal opportunities.

Q: What has been the main thing you’ve learned so far (outside of Ethereum not working out) that you were surprised to learn?

A: We where very surprised by the high conversion rates. We see good engagement, higher than we initially expected. What we see is real users putting in effort to earn Kin and using Kin to buy content.

Q: I am working on a new website/app, I would like to integrate KIN as my application rewards system. I want to where I should start and what I should have to get started.

A: You can understand how the integration will work by working with current sdks https://github.com/kinfoundation/kin-sdk-core-android , https://github.com/kinfoundation/kin-sdk-core-ios, https://github.com/kinfoundation/erc20token-sdk-python.

Q: Any ideas of how the migration will work? Will there be a need for a second migration if we move from Stellar to Orbs? Loving the project and keep up the good work.

A: Thank you for the support! It is important to have a blockchain solution that will be able to support the scale and amount of transactions that Kin can generate. We are researching the possible migration options and in any case our top priority is to protect current Kin holders. Please stay tuned for further updates about the the migration process in the upcoming weeks.

Q: What attracted you to this role on the Kin team?

A: A few things:

  • We have an amazing team on board, very strong professionals.
  • The crypto eco-system is still in its early days, there is a huge opportunity to have a big impact.
  • Kin is very unique in its ability to reach millions of users very fast.
  • Its an amazing challenge to build beautiful products for this eco-system. There is a real need for easy to use and simple crypto interfaces.

Q: Will KIN be able to be used by other messengers?

A: We have active discussions with a number of digital services and going to share more information in the upcoming few weeks. It is super exciting times as we see so much interest from digital services that want to join the kin ecosystem.

Thank you Alex and thanks to everyone who participated in this AMA. Please join our community on Reddit and Telegram to keep the conversation going.
