Earlier this week, over 100 developers showed up at the LabsTLV events hall to hear David Yakira, Head of research at Orbs, teach us about Proof of Stake and the Next Generation of Ethereum. This was the 5th event in our efforts, together with Samsung Next and Orbs, to create a developer community called Blockchain Academy — a community for technologists by technologists looking to learn more about crypto and Blockchain technology.

In the event, David covered the evolution of PoS protocol designs while analyzing the paradigm’s challenges and proposed solutions. In addition, he went over in detail Ethereum’s proposal and its implications and risks to the Ethereum network.

The Proof-of-Stake paradigm has been around since 2011. A tremendous effort within the academic/engineering community has been made to develop PoS-based blockchains that are sufficiently decentralized, high performant and sustainable. In fact, PoS is more relevant than ever as numerous PoS projects come to maturity, like Dfinity, Algorand, Thunder Token, EOS and Etheruem with Casper FFG (Friendly Finality Gadget).

We hope that all those that attended came out with a much stronger grasp of PoS protocols and the next generation of Ethereum — as will you if you watch David’s presentation below, and review his slides here:

If you’re looking to learn more about blockchain technology, join Blockchain Academy on Facebook, and come to our future events. In our next session, Itay Radotzki continues Leonid’s talk on the How to not Destroy Millions in Smart Contracts and reviews a Survey of Attacks on Ethereum Smart Contracts.

Stay tuned to learn more about our upcoming events.

Blockchain Academy is a partnership between Kin, Orbs and Samsung Next. We are always looking for top talent, so if you are interested in exploring the wonderful world of blockchain technology, email netanel@kik.com to learn more about Kin, kfir@orbs.com to learn more about Orbs, and royi@samsungnext.com to get in touch with Samsung Next.

Until Next Time…
