The Ins and Outs of Next Week’s Demo Day

Demo Day is quickly approaching, and we’re looking forward to seeing what participants in the Kin Developer Program have been working on! You may be wondering what’s going to happen on Oct. 15, so we’ve put together this definitive guide to Demo Day that should answer any questions you have.

What is Demo Day?

Demo Day provides participants in the Kin Developer Program with an opportunity to showcase the Kin-powered experience they’ve integrated into their new or existing app. Passing demo day will unlock access the program’s milestones.

The Kin Developer Program has three milestones:

• Milestone 1: App goes live in at least one app store by Nov. 14, 2018
• Milestone 2: 10,000 monthly active wallets for at least two months before Oct. 15, 2019
• Milestone 3: 50,000 monthly active wallets for at least two months before Oct. 15, 2019

In order to reach the first milestone, each participant is required to demonstrate that their app can handle real users earning and spending Kin. They will do this on Demo Day (Oct. 15) in a ten minute block between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM EST where they are required to show us at least one earn opportunity and one spend or peer-to-peer experience in their app. By end of day on Oct. 16, each team will have received our committee’s final decision on whether they can push their integration into production to reach the first milestone and receive the first incentive.

The outcomes

Participants will reach one of three possible outcomes following Demo Day:

1. Green light (good to go): Apps that have successfully integrated Kin and have met all other criteria will be given the go-ahead to push to production. They will have 30 days (until Nov. 14) to go live in at least one app store, which will signal that they have reached the first milestone. We will review the app internally to ensure that the app has a live and working Kin experience, and once confirmed the participants will receive the associated reward.
2. Yellow light (needs updates): In some cases, apps may have a working demo but may require small changes that will increase their chances of approval with the respective app stores. These participants will still be eligible to reach the first milestone once a new demo has been submitted and approved by the selection committee — assuming they are able to go live in an app store by Nov. 14.
3. Red light (no go): Apps that have unsuccessfully integrated Kin into their app will not be allowed to push to production. This includes apps that do not have a working demo, or apps that have deviated too far from their original use case that was approved on Aug. 11.

The criteria

Each participant will be judged on the following criteria:

• Clarity of the use case
• Clarity of the earn opportunity
• Clarity of the spend opportunity or peer-to-peer use case
• Compliance with our Terms of Service
• Compliance with product and pricing guidelines

The selection committee

The selection committee is made up of four members of the Kin team, spanning marketing, partnerships, developer platform, and product teams:

What’s next?

While we will not be livestreaming Demo Day, we will be live-tweeting from inside the selection room. We’ll also be sharing updates on Reddit and Telegram. On Oct. 16, you can look for another blog post detailing trends from the apps that received the go-ahead to push to production. However, we will not be sharing specific app or participant names until we have internally verified that the app is live in at least one app store with a working Kin integration that meets the criteria of what was presented on Demo Day. Once we’ve internally verified each live app, they will have reached the first milestone and will receive its associated reward.
