As the Kin ecosystem grows involving more app developers and partners with great user experiences, the probability that users will have more than one app with Kin experiences installed on their device also increases.
At Kin, we see major value in building an ecosystem where each participant contributes to its success, as well as takes advantage of the ecosystem’s benefits for their own needs.

One of our squad’s goal for the quarter was to enable the connection between different applications in the ecosystem as a first major step towards becoming a real ecosystem in which all parties can benefit from being a part of it. In our vision, we see this step as the first one in generating many other future collaborations between apps.

In continuation of developing the Discovery feature in Kinit, we recently implemented the Lean discovery feature in Tippic (our playground for testing). Meaning users can now explore the different apps and Kin experiences that are a part of our ecosystem, be directed to Google Play to download a chosen app from the Discovery page, send Kin from the app that is hosting the Lean Discovery, and spend the Kin they sent in the new app.

This quarter we focused on extracting the Lean discovery feature to create a module for developers to adopt, which can be easily implemented by the different ecosystem apps.

The Lean discovery module is a leaner version of our Discovery feature, that’s displayed in Kinit.
The module displays a maximum of 8 apps and promotes the different user experiences in those apps, rather than just listing the apps themselves side by side. A user can click on the experience he/she liked the most, and send Kin to that app in order to try out the activity.

Value for users:

  1. Exploration of the ecosystem — the lean discovery module is an opportunity for users to get to know more apps in the Kin ecosystem and learn about more experiences using Kin experiences.
  2. No more barriers — users can now earn Kin in one app, send it over to another app and spend their Kin on the experience they enjoy most.

As part of our unique squad’s status, we’re not only thinking about the challenges and the needs of our end users but also about our ecosystem Apps developers.

Value for developers:

  1. Apps that did not receive so much attention, will start getting free user acquisition just by being a part of the ecosystem.
  2. More users will be spending Kin in an app that will get new users to it, and this will result in a larger compensation to the developers as part of our KRE (Kin Reward Engine).
  3. The apps which will host the module, and as a result, will send their users to other apps, will be compensated during our pilot period, by our “mini” KRE. Later, this additional compensation will be a part of the regular KRE. We target mid-June as the first reward payment, and it will be calculated on a two-week period basis:

Current status:

The module is available for any app that is connected to the new Kin blockchain.
We’ve already approached a few developers who showed their enthusiasm towards both implementing the module and its huge value to all participants in the ecosystem. They confirmed they would like to be a part of our pilot which will begin in June.

Lastly, we plan to send out to our first early bird developers a survey.
Since we plan to build more modules the ecosystem apps can adopt in the future, we would like to measure the satisfaction level of the developers from the process of implementing the module, the effort they had to put in adopting it and the value they see in the module.
Only this way we can understand the developer’s needs and improve processes in the ecosystem.
