Our Investment in Humane

One of the most consistent things about the new technology products that fundamentally change our lives is that we will eventually…outgrow them. We adopt new technology perhaps as a delightful toy to shoot photos, listen to music, play games, and connect with friends, or maybe as a well-designed tool to take a credit card payment from a customer, request a rideshare, book a table at your favorite restaurant, find a flight for your next vacation. Then, we learn about what works well, and doesn’t, and our imagination asks for something better.

From several friends at Apple, we had heard whispers about two intriguing people, Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, who had been instrumental in the creation of the iPhone and iPad under Steve Jobs, and had ventured out on their own to create a new company called Humane. Last year, we had a chance to dive deep with them and get a glimpse into their imagination for a new type of human-computer relationship. It was stunning, thought-provoking, and presented something better for our collective future. In our past lives as founders building products, we believe in their humane vision of technology that is less about us consuming and being consumed, and more about us living.

We’re deeply thrilled at Kindred Ventures to have led the seed funding for Humane last summer and join their mission and journey. To achieve their ambitious vision of the modern connected human, they’ve brought together a truly special and world-class team including CTO Patrick Gates, Technical Advisor Rubén Caballero, and colleagues hailing from Nest, Fitbit, Uber, Tesla and Oculus.
