This week kicks off another NFL season and for nearly 75 million people playing Fantasy Football (according to a 2018 study), it made me wonder just how much time the average person is spending on their team each week (and how much $$$ that is costing the average company). According to OppLoans, the average player is spending 6.9 hours per week on their team — and 96.6% of those players admit to working on their teams during work hours! Check out the full survey here.

AMA NFL

The NFL has signed a content and advertising deal with Reddit, which will include the NFL creating content for the website and offering players, executives and more for the popular “Ask Me Anything” (AMA, for short). The NFL reddit community already has 1.5M members, so becoming an active participant is smart for the NFL (and I think more brands / talent should do the same). The NFL can now create content and deliver it directly to fans via Reddit — even allowing teams to target their individual communities for tailored content. The AMA’s could be most interesting, however. They surely wont be surprised when an AMA is full of questions around social justice, player safety and more controversial topics, but how will they respond? It’s one thing to ignore a controversial question from a few people on Twitter, it’s another to not answer a top question on an AMA. This partnership will be interesting to watch, but it’ll surely be a great opportunity for the NFL to connect directly with fans.

The NFL also announced a deal with TikTok — between this and Reddit, it’s clear the NFL is looking to reach a younger demographic. But let’s not forget the international reach of these platforms and how that could tie into future NFL expansion…
