College of Charleston (6–3, 0–0)
Anderson (3–5, 1–1)
North Charleston Coliseum
2:00 p.m.

When Earl Grant and his staff scheduled their semi-home game on the temporary hardwood of North Charleston Coliseum, they were not planning to blemish an otherwise strong out-of-conference schedule with a DII contest.

This game was put on the calendar for one very specific reason — play a live game at the CAA Tournament host site before the postseason kicks off.

Theoretically it gives the Cougars a competitive advantage (that, and what should be a good home crowd). Everybody else in the CAA has to adjust to depth perception, crowd atmosphere and other aesthetics on the fly come March. So strategically, it’s a smart move.

Unfortunately, a last-minute pullout from another Chucktown university caused a desperation play from The College to keep the game. That is what resulted in Anderson, a DII team picked to finish 9th in their conference, coming to North Charleston.

It’s not bad timing for the Cougars. Players are in the middle of two weeks of final exams, and they could use some extra reps before embarking on a difficult five game roadtrip leading into conference play.

But don’t take this Anderson team lightly. The Cougars embarrassed themselves against this very team not too long ago (RIP Blogger account). They’ll need to stick to their same defensive principles and make shots in an unfamiliar arena. The goal is to get the bench and the reserves some playing time, and work out the inconsistencies in the offense. Focus on the opponent at hand and the Cougs will be in good shape when they take to the road.
