A Christmas themed board game
Last week I asked our Design team to join me in creating a board game. One last opportunity to get creative together before the end of 2022, with some festive sparkle added. End of year meetings don’t have to be dull, with tacky Christmas jumpers encouraged! 🎅🏼🎄
Think snakes and ladders with move consequences, but Christmas themed. The game was designed to be a crossover between films and celebrity characters, let me explain:
🔪 We split the team into groups
🎬 Each group picked a film and a celebrity from different hats
🎨 We created a board game as a whole, with each team designing a section
💥 The groups were asked to use the film as a theme and the celebrity to be their marker, mashing it together in whatever way they liked
🎲 Each section must have 12 steps with moving forward and backward events, all related to the films or celebrities
There was enough time to build the sections, play them back to the wider team and finally the fun part — playing the game!
We had some amazing mash-ups:
Die Hard (film) with Spongebob Squarepants (celebrity)
Elf (film) with Bart Simpson (celebrity)
Home Alone (film) with Mickey and Minnie Mouse (Celebrity)
The team ended up having lots of fun, and the collaborative nature of this session made it valuable as we put our creative skills to work and appreciate the value of laughter!
Definitely one to repeat again in the new year 👍🏻
