Figma’s new component properties presented us a host of new possibilities, however gave us new challenges too.

Realm (Kingfisher’s design system) includes a whole range of different products, some designed for retail customers, others for our in store colleagues. But by far the most complex set of component libraries are those that power Kingfisher’s eCommerce websites.

Theming a design system

Outlining our approach for tackling the issue of theming colour in our Kingfisher design system.

Theming is a way of customising a UI to more accurately reflect visual identity. Themes define the stylistic features of a UI kit, including typography, border radii, colour, spacing and sizing.
