LGBTQ+ Creative Space
February saw the annual celebration and commemoration of LGBTQIA+ History Month. LGBTQIA+ History Month is an annual month-long observance of LGBTQIA+ history and related civil rights movements both past and present. This year also saw the celebration of 50 years since the first Pride march in the UK!
As a way to mark the month, Kingston and Winchester Hub started an open call for creative submissions for students to submit artworks surrounding LGBTQIA+ experiences, themes and topics. This was aimed at giving a platform to LGBTQIA+ voices, celebrating queer creativity and voice, and showcasing the amazing skills of our students!

Description: A digital illustration of Saint Sebastian, a Christian figure who’s legacy has grown into being somewhat of a queer icon. The illustration is inspired by multiple historical paintings of Sebastian, many of which have been viewed as being homoerotic in nature.

Description: These pieces were created during covid crisis where my uni art practice has incorporated queer life drawings via zoom as well as use of distorted and skewed typographies to illustrate the challenge an Asian queer individual faces being sedentary complying with orthodox household rules. The composition of distorted figures and self-portraits depicts a notion of ambiguity and loss in one’s identity.
