The participated-mapping of the City Centre of Figline Valdarno

On the 25th of January, the start-up Kinoa organized a crowd-mapping event in the town of Figline Valdarno which produced a detailed accessibility map of the town’s streets.
The project “The town that I would like” was an initiative of the Municipality of Figline Valdarno which commissioned to Kinoa the mapping of its most beautiful and visited areas
Of the three meetings promoted by the Municipality of Figline in collaboration with the National Institute of Urban Planning, the second was dedicated to listening to the needs of disabled citizens. The mapping of Figline Valdarno took place along three main itineraries that our “Kimappers” traveled on their wheelchairs.

On each wheelchair there was a smartphone running the free app “Kimap”. Thanks to Kimap’s technology, it was possible to record, through smartphone sensors, every obstacle and imperfection of the ground along the streets covered.
All the data collected were then processed by our team at Kinoa which then produced documents and maps of accessibility that will be used by the municipality to redevelop the historic centre of Figline with particular attention to the needs of disabled people.

The output of our work will then be collected by the National Institute of Urban Planning, in a single document, “Guidelines for the historic centre”, which will then be attached to the new National Structural Plan.
