Use of AI tools and example prompts for university report writing

AI tools can be very useful for writing university reports. Here are some steps to using our AI tools and prompts.

AI-based report creation process

  1. Idea Generation: Use AI to plan the content of your reports.
  2. Research: Once the report content is decided, use AI to gather information.
  3. Writing Assistance: We use AI to write reports. If you have training data, you can create highly accurate reports.
  4. Proofreading: Once your report is created, we’ll proofread it using AI.
  5. Assessment: The content of the report you create is evaluated using AI.

1. Idea Generation

AI can be used to decide the theme of a report. For example, if you are writing a report on aesthetics, you can enter something like “Please give me some ideas for writing a report on the theme of aesthetics” into ChatGPT.

prompt: Please give me some ideas for writing a report on the theme of aesthetics.

If you don’t get a satisfactory answer the first time, ask the question several times to further refine your idea.

2. Research

Once you have decided on the topic of your report, use AI to find references and papers. For example, if you want to find papers on aesthetics, you can type the prompt “What are some famous papers on aesthetics?” into ChatGPT.

prompt: What are some famous papers on aesthetics?

During the research stage, we create learning data so that AI can be used to create reports. If you compile keywords of interest or convert sentences into text data, you can use these as learning data when creating reports using AI.

3. Writing Assistance

After completing research by reading several books and papers, I move on to writing my report.

Key Points for AI-Based Report Creation:

  1. Include the report question text in the prompt.
  2. Include report word count in prompt.
  3. If there are rules on how to write it, include them in the prompt.
  4. If you have training data, include it in the prompt.

Input these data into ChatGPT etc. to generate reports.

4. Proofreading

Enter the report text you created into ChatGPT and proofread it.In the prompt, enter exactly what you want corrected.

i.g:

  1. Check for typos and spelling errors.
  2. Sentence structure check.
  3. Check if there are rules on how to write.

5. Assessment

Finally, ChatGPT will check whether the report assignment requirements are met, including evaluation items in the prompts.

We will create assessment criteria based on the assignment question and use ChatGPT to grade the papers.

The prompt will look something like this:

[Evaluation item]

Even if you only use AI for a few steps in the report creation process, you can significantly reduce the time it takes to create a report. If you can reduce that time, you can increase the proportion of time you spend on research or allocate it to other study time.
