Friday
Well it was a good Friday morning class, but it was quiet. I’m now that “spanish nerd”. Eager to please, but unpleasant to all. It is my calling card. It’s my trademarked personality. I’m a very frustrated person. I raise my hand far too often and it got me a bit hoop snaked! I’m biting my own tail here! Politics came up. Specifically the Professor asked our thoughts on some political issues as a warm up. The movement to ban far right speakers came up. I let my hand slide up to its natural eager to please state.
David: “I think that as long as these speakers are presenting arguments and aren’t attacking particular groups — we have the first amendment protecting our freedom of speech — they should be allowed to express their political beliefs.”
Professor: “Yes >Jane Doe<?”
Her: “I believe there is a difference between freedom of speech and hate speech.”
David: “I do too, that is why I said that if the speaker is attacking or insulting a group they should be prevented from speaking!”
Too late the oral pen has marked the collective memory.
I guess I learned not to be too eager to speak.
