Top Ten: Favorite Episodes of “Roseanne”

I love “Roseanne;” it’s one of my comfort-shows; I can fall asleep to it, or I can watch in the background when I’m writing. The original series began in 1988 and ran for 9 seasons on ABC.

Focusing on a blue-collar American family, The Conners, the show starred Roseanne Barr. She was discovered as a standup comedian, with a unique perspective. The idea of a housewife with an edge translated well into the thirty-minute sitcom format, especially given the amazing supporting cast. John Goodman played her husband, Dan, and Laurie Metcalf played Jackie, her sister. Lecy Goranson, Sara Gilbert, and Michael Fisher played her children.

I’ve seen every episode at least once, but I have many that I return to frequently. This was a tough assignment (hence the multiple honorable mentions), but here are my ten favorite episodes.

10. “Millions from Heaven” — Season 9, Episode 2

VERY BRIEF SYNOPSIS: The Conners win the lottery!

While Season 9 is the worst — almost completely decimating the legacy of the previously honest, authentic tone of the rest of the series — this episode does portray the real American dream of a lower-middle-class family winning the lottery.
