Stories of Hope, Creativity and Resistance from the Americas

Reimagining a Post-Pandemic Future

KISKADEE profiles stories of female-identified and LGBTQI communities, capturing the public health, economic, political, and environmental impacts of COVID-19 throughout the Americas. Highlighting artists, movement leaders, and advocates, Kiskadee focuses on the voices of resistance, those creating a vision for a post-pandemic future grounded in justice, hope and creativity.

Kiskadee is the name of a bird I grew up hearing from the window of my grandmother’s home in São Paulo, Brazil. The bird, known in Brazil as Bem-Te-Vi (translated to I saw you well, meaning I know who you are) is a small and bold bird that quickly makes its presence known with its distinctive song. Kiskadees are heard from forests to urban areas, from southern Texas and the Caribbean to Brazil and Chile. They are known for their ability to adapt quickly to different environments and defy norms: females and males look and sound very similar and as an egalitarian species, they both care for their offspring.

Hosted by Bia Vieira, Kiskadee explores social, economic, political, and environmental responses to COVID-19 across the Americas, and how women and LGBTQI movements and creative leaders are organizing to reimage and change our collective future. Forging connections across the Americas, Kiskadee shares ideas, stories, and inspiration to drive action.
