G2G: Painting by Dots

The 4th edition of “12 weeks of crafts” at OrangeScape brought us in touch with Pointillism. While it is a form of painting, it is much lesser known variation. So when Leeza Harris (CEO, Chrysalis Studio) proposed taking us through this more technical painting technique, it was not just a creative challenge but also an intellectual one. The reasoning behind the use of individual colours over a mixed colour palette, the science of the eye and the meticulous technique of “painting by dots” involved is captured neatly in this article.

The entire session was extremely well crafted by Leeza to allow for each of our 120 odd employees present to create their first art piece using pointillism. We used only 2 colours (red, green)for this piece. It was exciting to see the finished project emerge beautifully yet distinctly different from a typical painting approach that one is used to.
As this series unfolds, these are the eye opening moments that we are excited to experience, it’s beyond a simple regurgitation of the typical art forms we are familiar with — we are exploring relatively unknown techniques and giving everyone an opportunity to create their own masterpiece in each session. This while different, lives upto the promise of Good to Great (G2G).
