Makiala’s Awakening

“Makiala” is the first word I heard when I opened my eyes. Gazing at me with a loving smile was a young woman whose features seemed vaguely familiar.

“The King sent me to fetch you.” I realized the voice seemed to sound within me as her lips never moved. An image of my maternal grandmother as I remembered her flashed in my mind. I looked down at myself expecting to see a plaid blouse and denim skirt, hardly an outfit for meeting royalty. Instead, I was draped in this soft exquisite fabric that swished around my ankles as I stood. At first, I mistook it for white but it shimmered with emerald…
