There are special pans made for ceramic cooktops. You can’t use “regular” metal or non-stick pans on them. There are at least two reasons for this.

First, ceramic cooktops are designed to work in a specific way. When you turn on your stove, the coils heat up — and stay hot for a while after you turn them off.

There are special safety features that prevent it from cooling down too quickly when you have turned off the cooking surface or if it has been accidentally turned on. This is to prevent you from being burned if you leave your food cooking on the surface accidentally — or just for a short time after turning it off.

Second, using “non-ceramic” cookware will keep your stovetop surface hotter for longer periods of time than intended by the manufacturer.

It’s possible that ceramic cooktops have a safety feature that will shut them off if they are used for too long, or if they are left on by accident.

You can also use both high-quality non-stick and stainless steel pans on ceramic stovetops.

One tip: Ceramic cooktops heat up quickly and stay hot for a while, so if you are using a non-stick or stainless steel pan, do NOT turn your stovetop to the maximum setting.

If you use any type of cast iron pan on your “glass” cooktop, only use the stovetop once it has been heated up for a while.
