As a tech-savvy user, you may be comfortable with sharing personal details of your life on social media. The Kite Crew loves being transparent too, and we enjoy giving our users a glimpse into the latest updates from Kite HQ. But, as an individual user, information that may seem harmless — like your date of birth, mother’s name and place of birth — can be used to commit serious financial fraud and identity theft.

Online identity theft is a criminal act in which your personal information is gathered from the internet to commit a cybercrime. Criminals generally use information you have posted in the public domain to take your money or even commit other crimes using your credentials.

Identity thieves may call you, claiming to be from Kite or other financial institutions, asking you to “confirm” your one-time password (OTP) or bank account details.

Once your personal information is in the wrong hands, it can be used for a range of illegal activities. Most often, your personal information is used to further extract your financial information and make unauthorized transactions or purchases. Identity thieves can also use your identity for money laundering, smuggling and other criminal activities.

At Kite, we’re committed to keeping your information and account as secure as possible. We never share your personal details, and use cutting-edge security to prevent information leaks. However, the last line of defense is you, the user. Identity thieves may call you, claiming to be from Kite or other financial institutions, asking you to “confirm” your one-time password (OTP) or bank account details. This information can then be used to empty digital wallets and bank accounts. Kite will never ask you for your personal details, and only has one dedicated customer support number (1–800–120–5483).

The last line of defense is you, the user.

If anyone calls you claiming to be from Kite, and asks for your personal details:

  1. Hang up immediately
  2. Report the phone number and incident to Kite’s Anti-Fraud Department (report@kitecash.in)

If a Kite account has been affected by fraud, report the crime with your local cyber cell unit of the police and to our Anti-Fraud Department (report@kitecash.in).

Generally, to prevent identity theft from happening in the first place,

  1. Check the privacy settings on all your social media pages
  2. Don’t use the same password on any two accounts
  3. Avoid using public computers to access personal information
  4. Don’t list a phone number or email address connected to your bank accounts on the internet
  5. Make sure that access to your personal documents (like your bank statements, passport, bills and tax returns) is restricted
  6. Check your financial statements regularly for irregularities, and report cases immediately

Keeping your Kite account secure involves a partnership between the user and the Kite Crew. Given the trust you’ve placed in us, we’re always looking to hear more from you, the user. Reach out to us with questions, concerns and feedback around the clock. We’re available at any hour by Facebook, email and phone.
