When Procter & Gamble — the world’s second largest advertiser and iconic purveyor of packaged goods — showed up at CES 2019 with several tech-driven products across different brands, it was a shot heard around the world. P&G knows everything has changed, and it has embraced a bold, new approach.

As we start to see what AI and 5G will bring, any large enterprise not looking at outside innovation could easily disappear in the next 10 years. Disrupt or die truly has become an imperative.

Within this context, tentpole celebrations of creativity and new technology like SXSW have become even more important destinations for corporate innovation leaders seeking to discover & partner with startups and understand larger trends. Yet this inspiring festival can also be overwhelming.

That’s why we constructed our fifth annual, half-day of SXSW programming to be the definitive anchor for corporate innovation leaders. For 2019 we focus on the playbook for successful corporate innovation — which includes a P&G Ventures exec ready to share the company’s CES experience — new models for corporate innovation that scale, and corporate venture capital’s role in innovation.

In addition to P&G, we’ve lined up speakers from several industries to share their innovation experiences and insights: media (Comcast NBCUniversal), industrial (GE), financial services (AllianceBernstein), healthcare (Johnson & Johnson), telecom (Verizon), aviation (JetBlue) and automotive (Mercedes-Benz). This is a unique opportunity for corporate innovation leaders to meet and learn from one another as we strive to drive growth and accelerate business.

Please join us at the Hilton Austin Downtown in Salon G from 9:30am to 1:30pm on Saturday, March 9 (session details below).

Download our SXSW startup report (in Excel) to help ensure you meet the right companies for your business. Use KITE’s content guide (for March 8–11) to hit the sessions, activations and parties important for corporate innovators.

One more thing: We welcome corporate innovators to our free, invite-only events that provide more opportunities for learning from and connecting with peers:
+ Friday, March 8: KITE’s Corporate Innovation Leaders reception (5pm to 7pm)
+ Sunday, March 10: KITE’s 3rd Annual Corporate Innovation Leaders brunch with breakfast tacos and Voodoo Donuts, hosted by Fjord Studio (9:30am to 12pm)

Please ask Tom McDermott to RSVP you and/or to set up a time to meet in person.

Everyone talks about accelerating startups, yet the real urgency is in accelerating and scaling enterprise innovation. That’s why it’s time to discuss what many Global 2000 corporations are asking: “What comes next?” A new model, pioneered by companies like Unilever and Visa, has emerged in recent years: a software-powered approach that gives startups a clear path into the enterprise and that encourages outcomes without taxing the larger organization. Hear from leaders in this emerging space about the way they have set up and run these programs, their learnings and successes, and how they’re scaling to increase the number of outcomes.

Corporate venturing is evolving as fast as startups. What began with domain investments in emerging companies and platforms is quickly extending across Global 2000 enterprises through startup partnerships, pilots and co-development initiatives. Corporate venture capital (CVC) investments surpassed $37.4 billion in 2017, 44% of all venture deals that year. As a result, CVC sees significantly more deal flow, pattern-recognition, trends and data on disruptive models than any other area of the enterprise. Top CVC executives explore corporate venturing in its broadest terms: success models and KPIs; strategic frameworks; expanding capabilities; how startup engagements ladder up to larger innovation objectives; how they balance strategic alignment and financial interests; what’s ahead.
